As a fire door there must be no visible air gaps between the hollow metal door and the steel frame. Hollow metal door pairs are notorious for having a gap at the center between the two doors. The heavy duty brush is designed for a firm seal between the doors, allowing no debris, wind draft, or pests to penetrate into the building. The brush is engineered to fit tightly into the aluminum holder, allowing the brush to not fall out even in the highest traffic hollow metal door applications.

The heavy duty design of the All American door astragal will hold up in any steel door application. The majority of door astragals on the market are only designed for residential use with extremely low traffic, resulting in the brush falling out within a week of use if installed on a commercial hollow metal door. The All American door astragal is made for hollow metal doors and will last for years in the highest traffic hollow metal doors.
Retrofitting An Astragal On A Hollow Metal Door Pair
If your hollow metal door pair has a gap between the two doors, then this All American Astragal is perfect for your application. It is important to note that this product can be installed on any commercial steel door pair, however some cutting of the astragal's aluminum door holder may be necessary if your steel door has door hardware that is very close to the leading edge of the door. For example, some steel doors are outfitted with cylindrical locks that have an unusually large rose trim (round finish plate behind the lever) which can have a footprint that is almost at the edge of the door. In these door applications, the All American door astragal can still be surface mounted to the face of the door, but some cutting of the astragal aluminum holder will need to be completed in order to fit it around the oversized lock trim. Likewise trimming of the astragal door holder may also be necessary if your steel door had any kind of special prep with locking hardware very close to the edge of the door.
