Wall Type & Exterior Weatherproofing - CMU/Block

Designed for CMU/block wall substrates (solid or grouted cells). The included threshold, sill flashing, and head flashing/drip edge integrate with commercial sealants to help shed water at both the sill and transom head.

• Prepare a flat, level, structurally sound sill; bed threshold in continuous sealant; maintain positive slope to exterior.
• Integrate sill flashing with the wall’s drainage plane; use end dams and weeps where detailed.
• Install head flashing/drip edge above the transom; coordinate with any through-wall flashing above.
• Anchorage: use sleeve/wedge anchors for solid/grouted CMU; for hollow cells, fasten into grouted or reinforced cells where possible, or use an engineer-approved anchoring method.
• Shim jambs, head, and transom mullions to maintain plumb, level, and square; verify clear opening and reveal uniformity.
• Perimeter-seal with backer rod and commercial-grade sealant compatible with masonry substrates.

Anchors are by installer so diameter, embedment, and material can match site-specific block conditions and engineering.

Typical Installation Sequence

1. Verify rough opening and layout; confirm system frame size 39-1/2" x 121-3/4".
2. Dry-fit components; assemble the pre-fabricated frame (KD) including transom section per instructions.
3. Install pan/sill flashing; bed threshold in continuous sealant; set and plumb the frame.
4. Anchor jambs, head, and transom mullions to CMU; seal perimeter joints.
5. Install head flashing/drip edge above transom; integrate with wall flashing as required.
6. Adjust closer and hardware to ADA parameters; verify smooth operation and latch engagement.
7. Field glaze the transom: set blocks, install glass from the crate, apply glazing, secure stops; verify continuity of weatherseals.
8. Final QA: clear opening, sweep/latch speeds, water-shed at sill and head.
