Wall Type & Exterior Weatherproofing - Wood Stud with Veneer

Designed for wood stud wall systems with exterior veneer (brick, stone, or stucco) over a continuous WRB. The system includes a threshold, sill flashing, and head flashing to integrate with the wall’s drainage plane, ensuring proper water-shedding performance.

• Coordinate continuous WRB behind veneer; integrate pan/sill flashing that drains to exterior.
• Prepare a flat, level, structurally sound sill; bed threshold in continuous sealant.
• Anchorage: fasten frame through jambs and head into solid wood framing using lag screws or structural screws; provide reinforced king/jack studs and proper header support.
• Install head flashing with positive slope to exterior and overlap upper WRB for full drainage continuity.
• Shim jambs and transom mullions to maintain plumb, level, and square; verify door operation and uniform gaps.
• Seal perimeter with backer rod and commercial-grade sealant compatible with WRB and veneer materials.

Anchors and reinforcement are by installer and must comply with project-specific wall details and structural requirements.

Typical Installation Sequence

1. Verify rough opening; confirm system frame size 39-1/2" x 121-3/4".
2. Assemble the pre-fabricated frame (KD) including transom section per manufacturer’s instructions.
3. Install pan/sill flashing; bed threshold in continuous sealant; set and plumb the frame.
4. Anchor jambs, head, and transom mullions into wood framing with approved fasteners; check alignment.
5. Install head flashing/drip edge above transom; integrate with WRB and veneer flashing.
6. Field glaze the transom: set blocks, install glass from the crate, apply glazing compound, and secure stops.
7. Adjust closer and hardware to ADA parameters; verify smooth swing, latch, and seal performance.
8. Final QA: confirm weatherseals, threshold slope, and water-shed performance.
