Storefront aluminum systems are generally non-fire-rated. For rated egress, select a fire-rated hollow metal assembly.

Wall Type & Exterior Weatherproofing - CMU/Block

Designed for CMU/block wall substrates. The included threshold and sill flashing interface with commercial sealants and proper substrate prep to help prevent water leaks at the exterior wall.

• Prepare a flat, level, structurally sound sill surface; coordinate any pan or through-wall flashing with the GC.
• Set threshold in continuous sealant. Integrate sill flashing to direct water to the exterior.
• Shim jambs, head, and sidelite mullion to maintain plumb, level, and square.
• Perimeter seal with backer rod and commercial-grade sealant; tool joints for a weather-tight finish.
• Anchorage: use sleeve or wedge anchors for solid/grouted CMU. For hollow cells, fasten into grouted or reinforced cells where possible, or use an engineer-approved anchoring method.

Substrate anchors are by installer so diameter, embedment, and material can match site-specific block conditions and engineer requirements.

Typical Installation Sequence

1. Verify rough opening and confirm system frame size 75-1/2" x 85-3/4".
2. Dry-fit components; assemble the prefabricated sidelite frame (KD) per instructions.
3. Bed threshold in continuous sealant; integrate sill flashing; set and plumb the entrance frame.
4. Anchor jambs, head, and mullion to CMU per engineer-approved fasteners; verify square.
5. Perimeter-seal frame; adjust closer and hardware to ADA parameters.
6. Install sidelite glass from the crate; set blocks, apply glazing, and secure stops; verify weatherseals.
7. Final checks: latch engagement, sweep/latch speeds, clear opening, weather integrity.
