Determining Door Closer Hand

The door closer handing chart below shows the handing of a door closer. Door closers can be handed Right Hand Reverse (RHR), Left Hand Reverse (LHR), Left Hand (LH), Right Hand (RH). One point to keep in mind is that door closers are always mounted on the interior side of the door. This is due to security reasons. If a door closer was mounted to the exterior side of a door, it would be on the outside of the building and would be vulnerable to vandals. It would also be exposed to the outside elements like rain and snow.

Non Handed Tri-Packed Door Closers

Most door closers are unhanded and can be mounted on any door hand.
