1.0 General

1.1 Summary

Provide Steel-Lite hollow metal welded frames for single door openings in pre-construction wood stud or metal stud wall applications. Frames shall be factory welded, factory prepared for installation before drywall is installed, and suitable for commercial new construction applications where wall studs are already erected but wall finishes have not yet been applied.

Steel-Lite welded frames are designed for commercial durability, jobsite efficiency, and reliable long-term performance in commercial interior and exterior openings.

2.0 Product

2.1 Steel-Lite Hollow Metal Welded Frame Construction

Steel-Lite hollow metal welded frames shall meet the following requirements:

• Factory welded frame construction
• Single door configuration
• Available in 16 ga. and 18 ga. steel
• Designed for pre-construction stud wall applications
• For installation before drywall or wall finish materials are applied
• Suitable for wood stud and metal stud wall construction
• Includes factory-installed wood stud or metal stud jamb anchors
• Available in standard wall depths
• Factory reinforced for commercial hinges, locks, closers, and hardware preparations
• Ships fully welded and ready for installation
• Factory finished in rust-inhibiting gray primer suitable for field painting
• Available in standard and custom sizes

3.0 Frame Type and Application

3.1 Frame Type

Frames shall be fully welded hollow metal frames intended for installation in pre-construction wood stud or metal stud partition walls prior to drywall installation.

3.2 Intended Use

Frames shall be suitable for commercial new construction applications where wall studs have been erected but drywall has not yet been installed. Frame anchor system shall allow secure attachment directly to wood or metal stud framing members.

4.0 Fire Rating

Where required by the opening schedule, provide Steel-Lite welded frames with the appropriate fire rating.

• 45 minute
• 60 minute
• 90 minute
• 180 minute

Provide labeled fire-rated assemblies where required by code and opening requirements.

5.0 Installation

Install Steel-Lite welded frames in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and accepted hollow metal frame installation practices.

Installer shall verify the following:

• Opening size matches frame size and wall construction requirements
• Frame is properly anchored to wood or metal stud framing
• Frame is set plumb, level, and square
• Wall anchors are securely attached prior to drywall installation
• Frame is properly braced during wall construction
• Gray primer finish is protected until field painting is completed

6.0 Finish

Frames shall be supplied with a factory applied rust-inhibiting gray primer finish suitable for field painting.
