1.0 General
1.1 Summary
Provide Patriot Vision Lite Kits for installation in hollow metal and wood doors where fire-rated glazing is required. Lite kits shall comply with applicable UL, NFPA, and IBC fire door standards and be suitable for commercial, institutional, and industrial applications.
Patriot Vision Lite Kits are designed to provide a secure and durable method of installing glass vision panels in fire-rated door assemblies.
2.0 Product
2.1 Patriot Vision Lite Kit Construction
Patriot Vision Lite Kit assemblies shall meet the following requirements:
- Designed for 1-3/4" thick doors
- Compatible with 3/16", 1/4", and 5/16" glass thickness
- Constructed of 18 ga. cold rolled steel
- Mitered and welded corners for structural rigidity
- Welded reinforcing clips at corners for strength and fire rating compliance
- Countersunk mounting screw holes for flush installation
- Furnished with #8 x 1-3/4" Phillips head sheet metal screws
- Available in uneven and fractional sizes
- Factory applied gray primer (GPZ) powder coat finish
- Designed for use on 1-3/4" thick doors manufactured within door industry tolerance of +/- 1/16"
3.0 Fire Rating and Code Compliance
Patriot Vision Lite Kits shall be UL Certified and tested to meet the following standards:
3.1 Fire Door Compliance
- Certified by UL to CAN/ULC-S104
- Certified by UL to ANSI/UL10B
- Certified by UL to ANSI/UL10C Positive Pressure
- Complies with NFPA 80 - Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives
- Complies with NFPA 252 - Fire Tests of Door Assemblies
- Complies with IBC requirements for labeled fire door assemblies
3.2 Fire Rating Capabilities
- Suitable for hollow metal fire doors rated up to 3 hours
- Suitable for wood fire doors rated up to 90 minutes
- Approved for use in positive pressure fire door assemblies
4.0 Optional Features

- Silicone acoustical seal applied to reduce sound transmission
5.0 Acoustical Performance
Where specified, Patriot Vision Lite Kits shall include acoustical treatment designed to reduce airborne sound transmission.
Acoustical testing performed at Architectural Testing, Inc. in accordance with the following standards:
- ASTM E90 - Standard Test Method for Laboratory Measurement of Airborne Sound Transmission Loss of Building Partitions
- ASTM E413 - Classification for Rating Sound Insulation
- ASTM E1338 - Standard Classification for Rating Outdoor-Indoor Sound Attenuation
- ASTM E2235 - Standard Test Method for Determination of Decay Rates for Use in Sound Insulation Test Methods
6.0 Installation
Install Patriot Vision Lite Kits in accordance with manufacturer printed installation instructions and fire door listing requirements.
Installer shall verify the following:
- Door cutout dimensions comply with manufacturer requirements
- Glass thickness matches glazing tape selection
- Screws are tightened in a crisscross pattern to help prevent frame distortion
- Fire-rated glazing materials are used where required
