Door protection plates come in a variety of types from kick plates, mop plates, armor plates, or stretcher plates. Each offering their own special functionality for specific door applications. All door protection plates are designed to span across a surface area of the door's face and help distribute any force from an object that may impact the door. It is not uncommon that hundreds of pedestrians use a entrance each day. Each time a pedestrian enters or exits a door he or she could be carrying a box, pushing a cart, or carrying a shopping bag; which allows for the possibility of any of these objects to come in physical contact with your door and cause potential damage. Let's face it, when it comes down to it, your door is an investment. Door protection plates can save a door from potential damage and help elongate the door's lifespan. With door protection plates, the commercial or residential door can take more impact with less damage. But there are many different types of door protection plates to consider depending on your application.

Types Of Door Protection Plates

Kick Plate: A kick plate is a metal plate that is installed at the bottom of the door. Kickplates are usually about 6-12" in height and span the entire width of the door. They provide additional protection to the base of the door. Kick plates are great for public doorways such as restroom doors, where the base of the door is often kicked or abused.

Mop Plate: A mop plate is similar to a kick plate, but are usually taller. Mop plates vary in height anywhere from 12" to 24". A mop plate has a similar function to the kick plate, but is primarily used on doors that get abuse at both low and higher areas on the door face. An example of a mop plate door might be in a car dealership's service center, where technicians are constantly using the door. The door features more traffic than the kick plate example, but also has more chances of damage due to the nature of auto mechanics constantly opening and closing the door with tools and other mechanical items in hand or on a dolly. This extra protection on the door helps reduce the chances of damage.

Armor Plate: An armor plate is the ultimate in door protection. Unlike a kick plate or mop plate the armor plate spans anywhere from 24" to 48". It essentially covers the lower half of the door. An armor plate offers the best protection since it covers the largest surface area of the door. A common door application for an armor plate includes warehouse doors, where employees or trained traffic is constantly pushing or pulling the doors open and hauling large bins or carts.

Spanner Plate: A spanner plate is a metal plate that is typically mounted on the center of the door. The spanner plate is usually only 6 to 12 inches tall and covers the width of the door. It is primarily used as a push plate for pedestrians to enter or exit the door. Spanner plates are great for applications where a normal door push plate is not sufficient, and a larger plate is necessary. Spanner plates are popular in mechanical manufacturing buildings, where technicians or staff need a larger surface area to the push the door open.
