The Phoenix Door Controls 416 is a heavy-duty, ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 surface mount door closer built for high-traffic commercial openings. It features adjustable spring power Size 1–6, independentclosing and latch speed valves, adjustable opening check (backcheck), and an adjustable friction hold-open arm so you can set the door to stay open during busy hours and release it when traffic slows. Clean aluminum finish complements modern storefront and interior designs.
How the Adjustable Friction Hold-Open Works
Set a desired hold-open angle (commonly between 85°–110°, project dependent) using the arm’s friction adjustment.
During peak times, open the door to the set angle and it will stay open until pulled closed.
Turn the friction tension down (or past the hold-open point) to use the closer in standard self-closing mode.
Flexible Mounting Options
Regular (pull-side) mounting on the door
Top jamb (push-side) mounting on the frame
Parallel arm (push-side) mounting for low-profile installations
Fire-Door Note: Friction hold-open arms are generally not permitted on labeled fire-rated doors unless used with an approved release device tied to the life-safety system. Confirm local code and AHJ requirements before specifying.
