1.0 General

1.1 Summary

Provide Steel-Lite hollow metal drywall knock down frames for single door openings in drywall construction. Frames shall be field assembled, factory prepared for installation in metal stud walls, and suitable for commercial new construction applications where the wall is built around the frame.

Steel-Lite drywall knock down frames are designed for efficient handling, fast field assembly, and reliable installation without welding.

2.0 Product

2.1 Steel-Lite Hollow Metal Drywall Knock Down Frame Construction

Steel-Lite hollow metal drywall knock down frames shall meet the following requirements:

• Knock-down (KD) three-piece frame system
• Consists of two jambs and one head
• Single door configuration
• Available in 16 ga. and 18 ga. steel
• Designed for drywall construction
• Field snap-together assembly
• No welding required in the field
• Ships flat for easier handling, transport, and jobsite staging
• Available in standard depths from 4-7/8" to 8-7/8"
• Includes jamb anchors for attachment to metal stud walls
• Factory finished in gray primer suitable for field painting
• Available in standard and custom sizes

3.0 Frame Type and Application

3.1 Frame Type

Frames shall be drywall knock down type intended for installation in interior partition walls using metal stud construction.

3.2 Intended Use

Frames shall be suitable for new construction applications where the wall is built around the frame. The snap-together design shall allow for quick installation and alignment in the field.

4.0 Fire Rating

Where required by the opening schedule, provide Steel-Lite drywall knock down frames with the appropriate fire rating.

• 20 minute
• 45 minute
• 60 minute
• 90 minute

Provide labeled fire-rated assemblies where required by code and opening requirements.

5.0 Installation

Install Steel-Lite drywall knock down frames in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and accepted hollow metal frame installation practices.

Installer shall verify the following:

• Opening size matches frame size and wall construction requirements
• Frame is properly assembled in the field before wall completion
• Jamb anchors are securely attached to metal stud framing
• Frame is set plumb, level, and square
• Gray primer finish is protected until field painting is completed

6.0 Finish

Frames shall be supplied with a factory applied gray primer finish suitable for field painting.
