How To Order First Defense Armor Plates

Armor Plate Types
First Defense armor plates are offered in three types of materials: stainless steel, aluminum, and plastic.
Stainless Steel Armor Plates
Stainless steel armor plates are heavy duty and very durable. If you require fire rated armor plates, stainless steel must be used, as aluminum or plastic cannot be fire rated.
Aluminum Armor Plates
First Defense offers clear anodized (silver), black, and brass finished aluminum armor plates. Aluminum armor plates are also heavy duty and perfect for commercial or residential applications, but are not fire rated.
Plastic Armor Plates
First Defense offers black, brown, gray, beige or white plastic. Plastic armor plates are 1/8" thick and extremely durable. Plastic armor plates are not eligible for a fire rating.
Fire Rating Option
First Defense offers a Warnock Hersey Listed fire label designed for installation on 3 Hour fire rated hollow metal doors. Only stainless steel armor plates with self drilling screws or torx security screws are eligible for a fire rating.
Available Mounting Options
The First Defense armor plate is available with adhesive, magnetic, or traditional fastener screw mounting installation types. It is important to note that for fire rated armor plates, fastener screw installation must be used. Adhesive and magnetic mounting options can only be used for armor plates being installed on non fire rated doors. Also, please note if adhesive or magnetic mount options are selected, fasteners and pre-drilled holes in the armor plate will not be provided. Screw fasteners and pre-drilled armor plate holes are only provided on standard fastener screw installations.
Self Drilling Screws Mounting Option
This is the most popular mounting option. The armor plate comes pre-drilled with pilot holes, and self drilling screws are included. This option is available for fire rated armor plates.
Security Torx Screws Mounting Option
The armor plate comes pre-drilled with pilot holes, and security torx screws are included. This option is available for fire rated armor plates.
Countersunk Holes Option
This option is only eligible for armor plates that are mounted by self drilling screws or security torx screws. The pre-drilled pilot holes in the armor plate are counter sunk, meaning they are drilled with a recess so that the head of the screw will seat flush in the armor plate when tightened.
3M Adhesive Mounting Option
If you do not wish to attach the armor plate to the door by screw fasteners, we offer an option for double face 3M adhesive backing on the back of the armor plate, so that it can attach to the door by adhesive. Installation is very simple, and this is a great alternative to screw fasteners. Please note this option is only eligible for non-fire rated armor plates.
Magnetic Mounting Option
This option allows you to add a magnetic backing to the armor plate, so that it can magnetically attach to a metal door. This option only works if your door is metal such as a hollow metal door. It is also important to note that only non-fire rated armor plates 12" tall or under are eligible for the magnetic mounting option.
Bevel Edges Option
Standard armor plates come with a square edge. This option allows you to add a bevel to all 4 sides of the armor plate. The bevel edge helps blend the armor plate into the door better visually and provides a more finished appearance. The bevel edge option is not available for plastic armor plates.
