Fire Ratings & Code Requirements
Fire rated hollow metal door pairs are tested and listed to withstand fire exposure for a specified period (e.g., 20, 45, 60, 90, 180 minutes). These ratings are assigned by independent labs (e.g., UL) and are required on openings where the building code specifies a fire separation.
- 60 minute doors - common in offices, corridors, and rated partitions
- 90 minute doors - required in higher hazard areas or across stair enclosures
- 180 minute doors - typically found in fire walls or between differing occupancies
