When to Use Louvered Hollow Metal Door Pairs

Choose a louvered hollow metal door pair when you need a double door opening and ventilation through the door leaves. These openings are common in mechanical rooms and utility spaces where air movement is required but the opening still needs commercial security and durability.

Common Applications

  • Mechanical rooms and HVAC equipment rooms
  • Electrical rooms and utility rooms
  • Generator rooms and pump rooms
  • Warehouse and industrial service openings
  • Multi-tenant back-of-house and service corridors

For single door openings, see: Louvered Hollow Metal Doors.

Louver Options, Airflow, and Spec Considerations

Louvers allow airflow through the door while maintaining a durable steel door surface. Louver size, location, and type can vary by application. If your project has engineered drawings or a mechanical schedule, match the louver requirements to the plan.

  • Airflow needs: match the louver size to ventilation requirements
  • Location: louver placement may impact hardware prep and door reinforcement
  • Durability: select commercial-grade louvers for high-traffic or industrial spaces

Sizing, Rough Openings & Measuring

Correct sizing is critical for a successful installation. Confirm rough opening size and frame requirements before quoting or ordering.

For common sizes, shop by size: Hollow Metal Doors by Size.

Hollow Metal Door Frames (Wall Type Matters)

Frame selection affects fit, alignment, and long-term operation. Choose frames based on wall type (drywall, stud, block, brick, concrete), and whether the opening is new construction or a retrofit.

Common Hardware for Louvered Door Pairs

Louvered door pairs typically use commercial hardware including panic hardware, locks, closers, and access control. The key is ordering the correct prep and selecting hardware that matches door thickness (typically 1-3/4") and the opening requirements.

Fire Rated Louvered Door Pairs (When Required)

If the opening is part of a rated corridor, stairwell, or fire barrier, you may need a fire-rated door and frame assembly. Fire-rated requirements can affect door construction, labeling, and what hardware is permitted.
