When to Use Flush Hollow Metal Door Pairs

Choose a flush hollow metal door pair when a single door will not provide enough clear opening width, or when a building plan specifies double doors for traffic flow, equipment movement, or code-driven egress. Door pairs are common on corridors, service entrances, and openings where carts, beds, pallets, or large items need to pass through.

Common Applications

  • Schools and universities (corridors, gym entries, storage rooms)
  • Hospitals and clinics (wide corridor openings)
  • Warehouses and industrial buildings (equipment and pallet access)
  • Retail and multi-tenant buildings (rear and service entries)
  • Government and municipal facilities (high-traffic openings)

Flush vs Other Pair Options

  • Flush pairs - clean surface, durable, and versatile for most commercial applications
  • Vision lite pairs - choose when visibility is needed
  • Louvered pairs - choose when ventilation is required
  • Fire rated pairs - choose when the opening is part of a rated assembly

Sizing, Rough Openings & Measuring

Correct sizing is critical for a successful door pair installation. Door pairs involve two door leaves and a frame sized to match the opening condition. If you are unsure, take photos of the existing opening and text us for help.

Frames for Door Pairs (Wall Type Matters)

Door pair performance depends heavily on the frame. Frame selection is based on whether the opening is new construction or a retrofit, and whether the wall is drywall, stud, block, brick, or concrete.

Common Hardware for Flush Door Pairs

Door pairs are commonly used with panic hardware, closers, locks, and access control. The key is ordering the correct prep and choosing hardware that matches door thickness (typically 1-3/4") and the opening requirements.

Popular Hardware Categories

Fire Rated Door Pairs (When Required)

If the opening is part of a rated corridor, stairwell, or fire barrier, you may need a fire-rated door and frame assembly. Fire-rated requirements can affect door construction, frame labeling, and what hardware is permitted.
